PediPlace welcomed the newest member of their team, VISTA Tori Wheelis. Her role in the organization will be to help increase capacity by building a solid presence on social media as well as increasing patient and volunteer/donor engagement through social media and expanded volunteer opportunities. Tori jumped in head first, creating an online social media publicity campaign for PediPlace’s biggest fundraising event in September, North Texas Giving Day. Through her efforts, PediPlace raised $6,135 on North Texas Giving Day. PediPlace has also seen an increase in traffic and followers on Instagram and Twitter, and an uptick in Facebook engagement.
June was a crazy month at PediPlace, a non-profit children’s health clinic in Lewisville. From celebrating the twenty year anniversary of the Director of Clinical Operations with PediPlace, to making the final steps to moving and preparing for a clinic remodel, to being celebrated as the Community Spotlight for CoServ, AmeriCorps VISTA, Kendra Reams ensured that these internal and community wide updates were visible and shared with the community. Social media presence allows for accessible interaction with the community, patients and their families, and donors. While attending a special presentation of PediPlace at a Rough Riders baseball game, a board member and donor mentioned that they appreciated being able to stay connected with the on goings of PediPlace via the updated Facebook page. It is a testament that the work of a VISTA is reaching the community and raising awareness of PediPlace’s great work.
In May, Kendra Reams, the AmeriCorps VISTA at PediPlace, took on a role outside of her usual marketing and graphic design work by managing volunteers. She recruited and facilitated communication with a small youth group and other charitable organizations. Kendra’s first group of volunteers spent 20 hours gathering supplies for and putting together around $120 worth of baby supplies and books for the New Mother Baby Bags.
As a VISTA Member at PediPlace, you will help end poverty by increasing donation and volunteer opportunities to make healthcare a reality for every kid. Major functions include developing new fundraising activities to be used in PediPlace’s service areas, increasing awareness and marketing volunteer opportunities by growing current and establishing new relationships with community groups and businesses, creating or updating collateral marketing materials and improving current social media communications. VISTAs serve their communities through indirect service. The programs developed by the Resource Development VISTA will endure for years, however the VISTA member will have limited interaction with PediPlace clients and will be based in an office setting. Applicants must be able to work independently, possess strong verbal and written communication skills and be social media and computer savvy. Applicants must be able to “think outside the box” and use creativity in this position.

VISTA member Kendra Reams, made important connections for PediPlace, the nonprofit pediatric clinic in Lewisville, TX. Kendra made it possible for PediPlace to get in the doors of Richardson ISD, a school district where PediPlace was previously not allowed to share the information about their services.
Connections to school districts, like Richardson ISD, are very beneficial for the population of students attending Richardson, because, not only is PediPlace easily accessible due to the new clinic located in Richardson, but the services are at little or no cost for all families who are uninsured, underinsured, or who have CHIP or MEDICAID.
