Steven Tillman Fosters Partnerships for Job Readiness Training with Two Major Social Service Nonprofits

StevenAmeriCorps VISTA member Steven Tillman is placing his efforts towards fully staffing Christian Community Action’s Job Readiness Training Program with volunteer trainers. Theses volunteers will be needed in order to facilitate trainings not only at CCA, but also at two other nonprofit organizations; Goodwill Industries in Lewisville, and the Salvation Army of Denton County. These partnerships were secured after Steven met with representatives for both organizations and presented an overview of the Job Readiness Training and what the program offers to clients. Steven will be meeting with representatives from Texas Workforce Solutions in August. He has a goal of securing partnerships with five organizations. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in Denton County, TX 27,000 individuals are unemployed and 64,000 individuals are living in poverty. The Job Readiness Training program, with regard to this group of the population, is anchored upon teaching people methods, belief systems, best practices, and techniques for maximizing one’s employment/earning potential and then strategically navigating an action plan of elevated employment, training, and/or education until one’s desired outcomes are achieved. Such outcomes range from a person obtaining a GED diploma through information provided about such resources, to a person securing employment which pays a functional wage suited for independent living, to a person earning a promotion at work, to a person identifying a career field which best suits his/her education and training, to a person earning an advanced degree through a well-executed plan of organization and achievement while simultaneously employed.

VISTA Steven Tillman Composes the Job Readiness Training Standard Operating Procedures Manual, Preparing Presentation for Partnership Outreach

StevenAmeriCorps VISTA member Steven Tillman recently completed development of the Christian Community Action (CCA) Job Readiness Training Program Standard Operating Procedures Manual, which is to be a cornerstone for the Job Readiness Training Program’s continued development and maintenance for years to come. With the completion of four successful pilot-trials of the Job Readiness Training classes reaching 70 individuals with information on employment and education resources, training 15 individuals and the completion of the S.0.P. Manual, Steven is putting the finishing touches on a presentation for partnership solicitation of other social service nonprofits. Organizations within Denton County, including Goodwill Industries, The Salvation Army, and Texas Workforce Solutions have expressed interest in incorporating the program into their client assistance efforts due to the manner in which the program addresses employment matters with clients. Steven is seeking volunteers to complete training as Job Readiness Trainers. These Volunteer Job Readiness Trainers will train clientele seeking gainful employment within CCA and within other partnering sites. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population of Denton County is currently estimated at slightly above 806,000 people, with 3.4 percent of those individuals estimated to be unemployed and 8 percent estimate to be living in poverty; those factors are calculated at approximately 27,000 people and 64,000 people, respectively. VISTA Steven Tillman Continues Saturday-Session Job Readiness Program Pilot, and Other Social Service Organizations Express Interest in Partnerships

StevenTwo more successful sessions of the Christian Community Action Job Readiness program pilot were recently held on two consecutive Saturdays for another group of hopeful and enthusiastic clients. In fact, AmeriCorps VISTA member Steven Tillman has seemed to have his hands full with the program’s rollout and revamp since the turn of the New Year. These course pilots serve as the foundation for the full development of a program which focuses upon workforce development, financial awareness, and self-empowerment. Such a program is estimated to require years of added program development and branch-cultivation for complete establishment. Social service nonprofits Goodwill Industries of Dallas and The Salvation Army of Denton County have expressed sincere interest in partnering with CCA in order to better serve the citizens of Denton County. The Workforce Solutions North Texas branch has also expressed interest in meeting with Steven to discuss the parameters for a partnership. An embodiment of programs which address the matters of unemployment and underemployment through socioeconomic awareness, skills development, and self­ empowerment could undoubtedly have a positive impact on a multitude of North Texas citizens. Therefore, Mr. Tillman’s efforts appear to not only be “headed in the right direction,” but in a “bright” direction, as well.

VISTA Steven Tillman Launches Saturday-Session Job Readiness Program Pilot

StevenThe citizens of Denton County, Texas have an interesting socioeconomic structure and somewhat of a unique need for workforce development. VISTA Steven Tillman, serving with Christian Community Action in Lewisville, TX, has spent months researching, gathering, and reviewing data, in efforts of finding a point of engagement which aligns with those needs. Programs department administrators at Christian Community Action approved Steven’s vision for holding Job Readiness courses on Saturdays. He recently launched the pilot for a group of hopeful and enthusiastic clients. The program still incorporates job market awareness, vision-scaping of future plans, and personal brand marketing, but also assist the client in conserving time by scheduling three classes in one day, rather than scheduling three classes over a period of three consecutive days. With this new addition, clients who have a busy schedule during regular business hours can participate in courses with less compromise.
