VISTA North Texas Member Shares Volunteer Recruitment Successes

IMG_4065Habitat for Humanity of Denton County is dedicated to eliminating poverty housing by providing families a hand up toward home-ownership. VISTA member, Salome Clarke, recently shared her volunteer recruitment successes as a guest speaker on a VISTA Campus webinar entitled “Innovative Volunteer Recruitment”. There were approximately 240 VISTAs in attendance. Salome shared tips on recruiting volunteer leadership, posting volunteer positions on online volunteer databases, and using the correct language for the desired target audience.

Salome ended her VISTA service on August 14th after recruiting over 200 new volunteers to help Habitat for Humanity build new homes for clients and provide the needed support at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

VISTA Member recruits volunteers to assist Habitat for Humanity Staff

Salome Clarke 1Habitat for Humanity of Denton County is dedicated to eliminating poverty housing by providing families a hand up toward home ownership. VISTA member Salome Clarke worked diligently to recruit long-term volunteers to help with administrative tasks in the Habitat for Humanity office. On average, it takes 480 volunteers and 3,8000 volunteer hours to complete a Habitat home, resulting in a lot of data entry and filing.  Salome successfully recruited 5 volunteers to assist the staff with these tasks and providing relief to Habitat for Humanity staff.

VISTA Member Supports Agency’s “50 Homes in 5 Years” Project

Salome Clarke 2VISTA member, Salome Clarke serving at Habitat for Humanity of Denton County has been working with the staff and Board of Directors to solicit sponsorships for Habitat’s upcoming 2015 Run It. Walk It. Build It. Walk-a-thon. To date, $9,500 and in-kind donations such as water, fruit and coffee, have been raised through sponsorships from churches, businesses and civic organizations throughout Denton County. The proceeds from the Walk-a-thon will go toward the new #habitat50in5 initiative. Habitat for Humanity of Denton County recently acquired 8 acres of land in Southeast Denton and will be building 50 homes in the next 5 years.  Salome has recruited 10 volunteers to serve in volunteer leadership positions on the Habitat Denton construction team. These volunteers will assist the Habitat construction team with crew leadership, purchasing materials, and with Auto-CAD.
