The New Volunteer Training VISTA will increase the agency’s capacity by improving current volunteer trainings and procedures thus increasing retention of volunteers. The New Volunteer Training VISTA will develop a curriculum to thoroughly orient and train new volunteers and will refine volunteer education and training in order to move volunteers from program participation to ownership. The VISTA member will expand and enhance the volunteer program through the evaluation and revising of existing policies and procedures. The VISTA will create a new volunteer training program that is consistent with new policies and procedures as well as follow-up trainings and evaluations to allow volunteers to provide feedback and retrain in areas where they need help. The VISTA member will develop a volunteer management system to track volunteer activities and hours of service. The system created will need to have measures in place that will maintain confidentiality and security of volunteer records.
The Volunteer Coordination VISTA will help break down the barriers poverty creates for low-income children seeking an arts education through the development of a new comprehensive volunteer recruitment and training program. Major functions will include evaluation and updating the volunteer handbook, policies and procedures, evaluating the agency’s volunteer needs and recruiting 50 new volunteers to fill those needs, and the development of training materials to educate and enable volunteers to serve the needs of the agency. Applicants should possess good oral and written communications skills, volunteer recruitment experience and computer skills.
The VISTA North Texas project has 3 new service opportunities that will begin on August 14th. Applications will be accepted through June 30th.
Denton Christian Preschool Marketing and Fundraising VISTA Denton Christian Preschool (DCP), located in Denton, TX, provides early education for at-risk children in the community. The Marketing and Fundraising VISTA will increase community awareness and enhance fundraising activities to help provide early education for at-risk children in Denton, TX. Major functions will include developing a marketing plan to increase Denton Christian Preschool’s presence in the community to include the development of print materials, social media content and participation in community event. The VISTA will enhance fundraising activities and write grants to raise an additional $100,000 for the education and care of at-risk children.
DCFOF Community Marketing Liaison VISTA Denton County Friends of the Family (DCFOF) located in Corinth, TX is committed to providing compassionate, comprehensive services to those impacted by rape, sexual abuse and domestic violence while partnering with the community to promote safety, healing and prevention. The Community Marketing Liaison VISTA will help stop financial abuse and help victims break the cycle of poverty by creating a sustainable system to increase support and strengthen donor relationships. Major functions will include developing and implementing a donor management system to include communication through print and social media to keep supporters informed and creating a time-effective donor acknowledgement process. The VISTA will create new, general marketing materials for agency use, assist in the planning, marketing and execution of fundraisers and create a planning manual for all agency fundraisers.
Woman to Woman Pregnancy Resource Center Volunteer Recruitment and Development VISTA Woman to Woman Pregnancy Resource Center located in Denton, TX, empowers individuals to make wise life choices financially, sexually, and relationally through 3 programs that work together to provide assistance to women in unintended pregnancies and bring families out of poverty. The Volunteer Recruitment and Development VISTA at Woman to Woman Pregnancy Resource Center will enhance the volunteer program to develop volunteer leaders. Major functions will include expanding and enhancing the volunteer program through implementation of new policy and procedure manual and continued development of a volunteer training manual, developing a volunteer management system to track volunteer activities and hours of service and developing areas to cultivate relationships with volunteers and move 12 of them to leadership positions within the organization to ensure retention and growth of the agency’s programs.

City of Denton Summer Camp Program Summer Associate VISTAs will assist with daily summer camp operations including the administration of the free summer food program to campers. Summer Associates will supervise campers in weekly themed activities and fieldtrips to facilitate a safe learning environment. Travel for job related activities include driving campers in passenger vans to and from fieldtrips and camp related work errands as necessary. The City of Denton will provide training and development for the Summer Associates. Summer Associates will attend a summer camp orientation with City staff. If needed the Summer Associates will also be trained in First Aid and CPR as well as defensive driving and van driving safety.

Major duties include packaging of lunches, loading cargo vans, serving meals to children at 28 designated sites/locations, and maintaining proper records for the Summer Food Program. The Summer Associates will also help with the set up and tear down of summer camp program activities. The City of Denton will provide training and development for the Summer Associates. Summer Associates will attend a summer food service orientation, as well as, direct on-site training with City staff. If needed, the Summer Associates will be trained in First Aid and CPR as well as defensive driving and van driving safety.
The Communications VISTA at Giving Hope will help end poverty by developing a coordinated communication plan to educate the community about services and needs of the homeless and near homeless. Major functions include producing a monthly newsletter, developing a social media plan and creating videos to educate the public on issues involving homelessness, poverty and other issues. The VISTA will be responsible for the development of events such as the State of the Homeless, Landlord Forum, Veteran’s Strategy Summit and the planning of the National Hunger and Homeless Awareness week. The resources developed by the Communications VISTA will endure for years, however the VISTA member will have limited interaction with Giving Hope clients and will be based in an office setting. Applicants must have exemplary written and oral communication skills as well as experience with social media, desktop publishing and public relations.
The Supportive Services VISTA at Giving Hope will help end poverty by developing resources to increase housing and employment options for homeless or near homeless clients in Denton County Texas. Major functions include designing and implementing processes to improve client intake and gather pertinent information, recruiting, educating and engaging local landlords and employers to increase housing and employment options for homeless clients and synthesizing information from the Street Outreach program to create a barriers report that will be used to assist the agency meet the needs of the homeless. The programs developed by the Supportive Services VISTA will endure for years, however the VISTA member will have limited interaction with Giving HOPE clients and will be based in an office setting. Applicants must have exemplary written and oral communication skills, proficient with Microsoft Suite and have a passion for improving the lives of the homeless.
As a VISTA at Epilepsy Foundation Texas you will help end poverty by increasing awareness of epilepsy and engaging the community through the development of community events and fundraisers. Major activities will be centered on the development of Sharon’s Ride.Run.Walk for Epilepsy, a family oriented fund and awareness raising event. The VISTA will mobilize current volunteers and board members in the Fort Worth community and seek out new clients, families and local organizations for partnerships, coordinate peer-to-peer fundraising, expand media contacts, and develop a media kit for the Fort Worth Sharon’s Ride event. VISTAs serve their communities through indirect service. The programs developed by the VISTA will endure for years, however the VISTA member will have limited interaction with Epilepsy Foundation Texas’ clients and will be based in an office setting. Applicants should possess excellent written and oral communication skills, community organization and fundraising knowledge.
As a Grant Writing VISTA at Christian Community Action, you will help end poverty by developing funding streams to assist low-income individuals transition out of crisis and become self-sufficient. Major functions include becoming familiar with grant research tools to identify new funding opportunities and develop, write and submit a minimum of 6 grant proposals for a potential outcome of $250,000 to foundations and other grant-making organizations that persuasively communicate Christian Community Action’s mission and programs to potential funders. VISTAs serve their communities through indirect service. The funding streams developed by the Grant Writing VISTA will endure for years, however the VISTA member will have limited interaction with Christian Community Action clients and will be based in an office setting. Applicants should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in research and basic grant writing knowledge.
As a Volunteer Coordination VISTA at Youth Believing in Change (YBC) you will develop a volunteer program to provide support and mentorship to underprivileged children. Major functions will include developing a volunteer program to YBC to provide individual attention to students and families served. The VISTA will establish a method of recruiting, training, and retaining volunteers. The VISTA will develop an effective volunteer management database to capture all attributes of the volunteer cadre which will be used to demonstrate to potential funders the value of volunteer service to the agency. VISTAs serve their communities through indirect service. The programs developed by the Volunteer Coordination VISTA will endure for years, however the VISTA member will have limited interaction with YBC clients and will be based in an office setting.
