Interfaith Ministries of Denton’s VISTA Members Manage and Educate Volunteers

Raven CarrRaven Carr is a VISTA member serving at Interfaith Ministries of Denton, Inc. as the Volunteer Coordinator. Interfaith’s mission is to provide emergency basic needs assistance to the people of Northern Denton County with the goal of helping those people to become self-sufficient. Interfaith was approached by HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership) of North Texas to partner on a community service project during their leadership conference. Interfaith does not hire a cleaning service to clean the office so the staff thought it would be a good idea for them to deep clean the office. Raven coordinated and oversaw the eight HOBY students during the community service event on a Saturday morning. Raven, as well as fellow VISTA member, Rebecca Dake, used the Rebecca Dakeopportunity to educate the students on what Interfaith does by showing them a    video Rebecca produced. The video featured a volunteer, which was recruited by Raven, explaining the needs for the services that Interfaith provides to the community. Raven provided the students with ice cream as a thank you for their service. She hopes that the partnership with HOBY will continue next year.
