VISTA Member Nate Dears Writes Grants to Aid the Food 4 Kids Program

FullSizeRenderOur Daily Bread (ODB), a community soup kitchen in Denton, TX that serve nutritious meals to those in need, is expanding on their mission.

ODB has partnered with the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB), Denton Community Food Center (DCFC), and Target Distribution Center to participate in the backpack program, Food 4 Kids. Food 4 Kids, is a program that distributes backpacks filled with food to elementary kids who are at risk of food insecurity and chronic hunger.

NTFB provides the food, and DCFC use their box van to pick the food up and drop it off at the distribution center.  Volunteers pack the food into backpacks and ODB delivers the backpacks to elementary schools.  VISTA member, Nate Dears, recently wrote a grant that was approved for $1,000. These funds will be used for fuel and maintenance of the box van. Currently, over 600 kids are receiving food through the Food 4 Kids program and the numbers are expected to grow.

Our Daily Bread is a partner agency of the VISTA North Texas Project.
